Phase 1 Assignment Prompt

Self-Assessment

First off, I want to say this is a class I look forward to, there is something about the way you teach it to us professor that gets me excited and wanting to learn more. Personally, during this month, I have learned how to understand the text we are reading more, meaning I get to dive into the deeper meaning (to get a better/ clearer understanding) of what the author is trying to say. With the text, we read I personally can connect to them in many ways, and I love the matter of fact that I can relate to that because I could feel what the author is really describing. I remember reading Amy Tan’s Mother Tongue and feeling what she was writing because I am in a similar situation and to write about it and build connections just feels amazing. I’m also learning how to expand my thoughts especially when we do free writing at the beginning of class, that is my time to write what I feel about the picture or topic that you would put up. During that time, I also try to use words that I haven’t used, so in a way, it also helps my vocabulary and that is one thing that I struggle on the most and hope to improve in this class. I’m looking forward to learning new ways to write meaning I want a challenge where I want to struggle a bit and learn from it, but like earlier one thing I wish to improve on the most is my vocabulary. At times I feel like my sentences sound very simple and very common, I want to be able to elaborate and add fancy words with what I write instead of sounding very boring in a way. Alongside with my vocabulary I also want to improve on my reading comprehension, at times it can be very simple but when the text gets very complex, I tend to struggle and even get lost and confused. In all, I just want to grow from here and become better and better with each class we have. I’ve learned so much already in such little time I just really hope I can improve on those little things because they are very important.
